It's September 2009, and Luna takes a weekend job manning the projector booth at a dying drive-in theater outside Waco, Texas. The Diamondback Drive-In has been running since the 1950s, but the crowds have dwindled to a handful of cars each night. Her boss, an old man named Roy, warns her to never let the screen go dark after midnight—because something in the surrounding cotton fields waits for the light to die. Luna thinks it's a joke. Then, on her third night alone, a single station wagon pulls in thirty minutes before close, and the passenger sits motionless, face upturned, never blinking. Luna watches her watch it. And when the movie ends and she kills the projector, the woman is still there, standing at the base of the screen, reaching up toward the blank white canvas.
