The Night the Blackwood General Store Stayed Open

October 1987. Luna pulls off Route 9 in Blackwood, Vermont, at 2:17 AM, chasing a light in a town that's supposed to be empty. The Blackwood General Store is open—lit, warm, stocked—but there's no car out front, no footprints in the frost. Inside, a man in a canvas apron stands behind the counter, and he knows her name. He knows things he shouldn't. He offers her a jar of honey that smells like her grandmother's kitchen, and he tells her the store has been waiting for her. She leaves with the jar, but the store's light follows her down the road, and when she looks back, it's still there. She never opens the honey, but she keeps it on her nightstand, and sometimes at night she swears she can hear the clink of a jar being placed on a wooden shelf, somewhere just out of sight.
