This is the end, yeah, you, Jim, for friends. This is the end, my only friend. Welcome back to Dan and Brent. I'm Brent.
Hey, what's going on? Not much, man. Happy Thanksgiving. We're recording this on Turkey Day.
Yeah, Turkey Day. Slash, I feel about that name, but. Slash, slash, Ham Day, because the ham's better than Turkey. It is, right?
No, no one really likes Turkey. Man, I love Turkey. Yeah, it was usually dry. Yeah, not when I make it.
I never had your Turkey. You know, I don't like making it. So yeah, exactly. Hand and ass.
Hand and ass. But I mean, it's like any poultry. You got a brine that shit, man. Yeah.
The brine is key. Even if it's like chicken breast, 30 minutes beforehand, you can do it with chicken breast in 30 minutes. Sugar, salt, warm water, mix that shit up, soak it in it. Sugar, huh?
Mm-hmm. Dude. You want to try that out next time? I grow some chicken.
It's super easy. You just leave it out on the counter so it gets room temperature, but in the brine, if it's going to be longer than 30 minutes, you probably want to throw it back in the fridge. Yeah. Why is room temperature?
What are you throwing in the brine? No, not before. Well, the brine, in order to do it correctly, it's kind of like sweet tea where you got to heat up the water a little bit. Yeah.
So you don't want it to start cooking and chicken. So you just sit. You wait for the brine to hit room temperature. I think you said, leave the chicken out on the counter until it hits room temperature and then put it in the brine.
I was like, I don't know. That didn't seem right. Well, I mean, it's better to cook with room temperature meat, isn't it? Yeah.
Or is that just beef? I think that's just beef. I don't know how that works. I mean, technically, the only thing that worries you want to cook with that room temperature meat is because it cooks more even.
Is that the reason? Yeah, because I would just throw off all your. Because the intern temperature doesn't, it's an as cold. So as you're heating it through, it raises quicker.
I guess that makes sense. I just always did it because it throws off all my time. You know what doesn't make sense to me? Why hot water freezes for cold water?
Or why I can hear children outside at 10.30 at night? Or is that my cat? Mine on your cat. Kind of hope it was the cat.
Our ghost just fucking freaks me out. If that was the neighbor kids outside it. 11 o'clock at night. You're windowed in.
Wait, on the second floor. Yeah. Outside the window. He was here tapping on the window.
Mr. Dan. Dude, how fast could you run the other fucking direction? I would throw something through that window and hit that kid off the roof.
Yeah. You just don't get up on a roof for no reason. Right? Something's wrong with you.
But what if something was wrong with your parents? Why would they climb on the roof to knock on the window? Maybe she's a little fucking ninja monkey and climbed up the floor. Behind the door.
Yeah. Yeah. She would have knocked. Yeah.
She would have knocked. That's still be frightening to get a knock and you open the door and there's a little kid there in the middle of the night. Freak me the fuck out, man. Is there anything scarier than little kids?
Why me? Even if it's not a kid to kill you, something bad has happened to where a kid is knocking at your door at night. Yeah. Something's going down.
Yes. Yeah. Children are scary. There's somebody watching called Cootie's.
I was like, Elijah Wood? Or is that his name? I don't know. Frodo.
Yeah. Elijah Wood. OK. Yeah.
He's pretty funny. It's basically like a bunch of kids turning zombies. And they don't mind killing kids. They try not to.
But it happens. I told you about that didn't they? Craig's mother-in-law. Sounds like you're going to talk about zombie children now or killing children.
I think I might have brought this up last year. But when they first knew here, she didn't understand. Nobody explained the tradition of Halloween. Oh, my god.
Really? Really? So she didn't understand why these children in outfits kept knocking on her door in the way. Yeah.
It's for strange. I mean, could you imagine if you moved somewhere and like, no, no one told you that. Yeah, no, it's tradition here to throw fireworks through people's windows on a certain time, a certain day. And you're like, the fuck?
People keep attacking me. Or even just the 4th of July, if you didn't understand that shit. Like, why are the things exploding all around my house? I mean, that would be super creepy.
I'm just thinking about a little kid like tapping on the second floor right now. You're still thinking about that house? Can you let me in, please? Mr.
Tan, it's cold outside. Fuck top. Ain't you by yourself here tonight? Yeah.
Hey, what do you mean? I've got you with me. Nope, I'm out of here soon. Anyways, what's Thanksgiving, traditionally at your place?
Turkey, ham, dressing, mac and cheese. It sounded like you went somewhere today. Yeah, I got parents' house usually. I went to my dad's house this year.
So now they got my mom's. So now it's good to the wise families. Oh, that's going to land. So you never host?
No. You never just cook Thanksgiving dinner for you. Well, honestly, if I heard family. I've hosted, I don't think any of my family would come up this way.
Everyone lives that way, except for me and my sister. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. You can't say I was like a family dinner at your house. Yeah, I could.
With just your family. Oh, no, I suggested that to my wife. Just the three of you. Yeah.
I suggested that. That'd be cool. Yeah, I'd like to do that one time. Darren, I did that in the last year, the year before.
Just the two of us. Big dinner for you and her. Yeah. It's pretty awesome.
I enjoy cooking. Yeah, I made a I made broccoli casserole for the first time this year. Doesn't sound good, but it might be. It was a huge hit.
Yeah. Mm hmm. This is just broccoli cheese. Broccoli cheese, cream of mushroom soup, ritz crackers, and mayonnaise.
And egg. Sounds real weird, right? Sounds real weird. Really good.
Paula Deen's recipe. You think you can make a. Castle a lot of answers? Yeah, you can.
Of course you can make a casserole anything. And then become more of a dessert. Castros aren't really desserts. Yeah, good point.
What do you think you would really care? No. After that bomb drop. It would be delicious.
You take a Twinkie. You break it up. Several Twinkies break them up. Pour milk in.
Wait, let it soak up all the milk. Done deal. So it's kind of like a bread pudding but with Twinkies. Oh.
They say those things, you know, never go bad, right? I don't think that's true, man. I don't think that's true either. But I've never tested it out.
Yeah. Do you know where that, like the shelf life of Twinkies is supposed to be like crazy mom? Yeah, but I mean, so is a can of corn. Mm hmm.
To know like Thanksgiving traditions, just like everybody shows up and eats a bunch of food and puzzles. Yeah, pretty much. Do you watch the football? No, did not watch it a lot of day.
Mr. Chang's the Bears whipped ass. He's the Suppy Lions. Did watch some of the macy's parade this one.
Yeah. It's her. Usually watches that, but she was out of town today. Yeah, my daughter had a project.
Something she had to watch it for a little while. Why? Girl scout stuff. I don't pretend to know, man.
I don't know what's going on. I don't know what's going on with me most of the time. Lamest project of all time. You go to watch some of the Macy's day parade.
And like name like three or five of the things you liked out of it. And why do you say that? I say Macy's day parade. And even though my dumb brain knows it's the Macy's Thanksgiving day parade.
Yeah, I said the same thing I think. Yep. Macy's day until the Macy's day. It's not Macy's day, dammit.
It is until the turkey shows up on the table. Good one. The coffee cobble. What if somebody tried to serve you turkey like breakfast time?
I'd be down. Yeah. What if they'll have like the whole spread? Oh, imagine for a second.
Turkey on with cranberry sauce. I'm down. See, I'm not one of those people that like refuses to eat anything other than the breakfast. Yeah, we'd have any cranberries today.
That's true. I love a canned jelly cranberry sauce. You know what I'm talking about? The canned?
Oh, the canned stuff. No, I don't like it. I love it. Some people will get mad if you don't have it.
I guess I should say I love it, but I enjoy it. Do you have those family members that you've, I wanted to slap those people because my mom always just made cranberries salad like with cranberries and you should have one item with cranberries like last year, last year or year before I made Brussels sprouts with cranberries. That's why I can also do that would probably be really good. Yeah.
Like one dish with cranberries would be great. Somebody over at crankshouse. My own made this like rum soaked cherry or cranberry dish. We're fighting each other for that shit.
Yeah. Okay. Probably get some more dirty rolls over there. No, just want the cranberries.
Just back away. We didn't have any rolls either. What's going on over there? I don't know.
That's probably a good choice. I'll just eat all the rolls. I made the gravy. I made double eggs and I made the broccoli casserole.
Does your family do that New Year's Day thing? I usually go to my mom's for New Year's Day because she does a whole pork collared rice. You know, like whatever you're supposed to have the money won for life won for. Yeah, traditions are weird.
Yeah, they are. You have any family traditions that you would hereby? No, no. No.
My family's destroyed. Shatter. Cool. That's awesome, Dan.
You don't do anything? Nothing that you from childhood you still do. Well, I'm here by myself on Thanksgiving, so no. I know, but you don't think of anything to do?
I mean, like, not things to do, but I mean, I mean, there was kind of, there was almost a tradition for a while. I guess more ritual than traditions. I guess the friends that we ate with for several years like moved away. So no, not really.
Yeah. It's weird that you're here by yourself on Thanksgiving. I don't think it's a thing. It's weird.
I don't think it's a thing. It's weird. I know, but how long you've probably been doing it for years now. Because it's a Terry's parents mid to Florida and it's like all different thing.
Normally, you'd go with her parents after them. No, ordinarily, we'd stay here and I would just make Thanksgiving today. Right. I think it's weird, but it's not always that I think it's weird because my family's here.
I don't know. I don't know how the experience of living like several hours away from my parents. You never lived several hours away from your family? No.
I never lived out of Charleston. It's pretty awesome, actually. No offense family, but it's nice to get away and do your own thing. Oh, yeah, for sure.
I mean, even with them here, I mean, they're an hour away. There's John's on a summer bill. It's about 45 minutes an hour. That's not too bad.
So I mean, I don't say as much as I'd like. I like seeing my family. I'm more frequently by myself on Christmas. Really?
It's kind of fucked up, right? You wake up Christmas myself? Yeah. It is a little weird.
The first time or two. You're coming to our house for Christmas. No, I'd rather not. You're like, I definitely want to do that for you.
No, please, please, no. With kids and yelling and early morning hot cocoa. Why would I do that when I got the never ending fallout to play? Yes.
So it's Fallout 76 available now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. Apparently the Xbox One is the one that works the best. Oh, really? Good.
Least amount of bugs and issues. Good. Fuck everybody else. Yeah, it's an amazing game.
And I'm sure everyone's who's teary pointed that up the other day. She's never played an MMO before. Oh, yeah. And she's like, I'm going to have to give myself a day.
I'm like, what? She's like, to stop playing this game. Yeah. She's like, because it doesn't end.
What am I done playing it? I'm like, never if they keep supporting it. That's really when a game dies is if the developer's like, yeah, we're shutting serves. I mean, you could just go look up the history of World of Warcraft.
Yeah. I remember playing that when it first came out before anything. How long ago was that? It was before I had my kid.
Well, yeah, that wasn't one. So more than 12 years ago. When the fuck was that? It had been early 2000s or possibly even before then.
I think it might have even been before I moved here. Yeah. Oh, it's been out forever. Holy fuck.
I remember when it got it when it came out because I used to play way back in the game. Yeah, it was one year old game. I used to play Ultimate Online. Oh, yeah, I remember Ultimate.
It was fun. I never played. What did you do in Ultimate Online? It was a bit of an...
You could do anything. It was like completely wide open. Really. You could build a house and build a farm and sell food or you could run around and kill people or you could go fight monsters or you could be a blacksmith only.
Awesome. That's what I enjoyed about it because it was open, which I thought this game was going to be a little more like that because they had one of the co-graders working with them from Ultimate Online. Really? On this fall?
How did you know that? I'm a bit obsessed with this game day. I don't know if you know that. I can tell.
So yeah, Fallout 76 though is an amazing game. We've been playing a lot of it. It's been making us think about atomic fallout. If a nuclear...
Well, my brain's not working. If a nuclear... P.O.P.O. we both shoot each other.
What's the word? Nuclear war? I don't think the war is the word I was looking for though. Mass destruction.
If everyone shot their nukes off and destroyed everything. Yeah. Nuclear winner? Nuclear holocaust?
Yeah, I guess. I don't know. Anyways. Lots of bombs.
Lots of bombs. Everything is pretty good. Now, in my opinion, the game, it seems like... So, for anybody who doesn't know, it's kind of like an art deco slash like...
Throwback to the 50s. Retro futuristic kind of... Yeah, it's basically like imagine if our timeline back in the 50s, if instead of creating the nuclear bomb and destroying everything, we created nuclear energy first and started using nuclear energy. Bombs were secondary.
So, like, cars run off nuclear. All the power plants are nuclear. Right. So, it has a lot of fantasy elements, but you know, supposedly you start out in like an underground vault because that was the big thing.
Like, they sold vaults to everybody in case everything did explode. So you emerge as a character who's been in one of these vaults and then you run into all these other survivors. So, it looks like when they put you out there that this has already happened where, you know, everything's gone to shit already. Because...
I mean, it's cool that they use bottle caps as a currency, but what do you think would be a currency? I mean, it's got to start with barter and trade, right? Well, if not like bullets and kill. Yeah, I mean, it's definitely a lot more barter.
I'll give you your shit. No. But there has to be some sort of base thing. Right.
That runs in economy. And they were saying that the reason why they use bottle caps and fallout is because... All the bottle cap, no one's making more bottle caps. Right.
They're made. There's a set number in the world that can use them as a currency because no one's creating any more of them. So it's actually a good point. But I don't know, man.
I think people would still use money. Paper money? Yeah. Even though it was useless, I think people would hold on to that.
I think it'd become... It'd be like, I got $10,000 here. Let me give you a sandwich. Yeah, maybe for a little while.
That's what I'm saying in the game, it seems like that's already gone. That's already gone. Gone. Because money's worthless.
It's already gone. Right. Except for a cloth. Which is what it would end up being used for.
Yeah. Because there's linen and paper money. Yeah. You know.
Because everybody has that anymore. I think it would be... I think ammunition would be a big thing. I think it would be a big thing.
Water. Yeah. I was completely forgetting that even. Yeah.
A lot of it's got to be barter and trade. Apocalypse. Yeah. It's going to be anything that's sealed.
Like sealed food. Can't food? So we're just assuming that we're not taking constant radiation at this point. Yeah.
So that's the thing with the Fallout game. You've got to kind of... Obviously, they got to light lighten up on how strong nuclear... Nuclear radiation is.
Sure, sure, sure. This isn't like a realistic game. No, not at all. Because I mean, no one still live in Chernobyl and that happened how long ago.
In the 70s, right? I don't remember but it was a long time ago. I think it was in 70s. I heard there's people trying to be back and it's just like...
Well, it's worse than that. It's crazy. Because there's people that live nearby that were affected by the Fallout and yeah, they're all fucked up. What's weird to me is I would have thought at least in Chernobyl, like if you have that much radiation leaking out.
Right. Humans die from it, but animals don't. Where? Oh no, it does.
I know, but there's still animals like in the area. Oh, that's what's starting to come back. Is that what is the wildlife start to come back? Yeah.
So they know that the Fallout is dissipating because... And it's just way quicker than they were expecting it to as well. So they were thinking like, oh, this place is just fucked for hundreds of years. Yeah, because the half-life of what?
Uranium, the plutonium. I think I believe it's Uranium. I think that was a Uranium reactor. Yeah.
Yeah. Blatte, our buddy online. What's telling me about heavy water? Something that's used to create plutonium with Uranium.
And I was like, what the fuck is heavy water? And he was like, you really want to know? Because I can get into it and it's really boring. Sounds exciting.
He's like, or I can just tell you it's used to make plutonium. That's good enough. Ah. But yeah, I'm thinking they probably didn't calculate in rainfall and it going back into the earth and wind blowing it away.
And anything that walks through is taking some of that radiation. Superheroes absorbing it. Right. I mean, redirecting it.
Everyone wishes like, I wish it was that he used to get superpowers. It's like a radiate me, bro. Right. You think by now we'd have at least like one.
Yeah, but one superhero. Well, the thing about that. Everybody has to like get horrible diseases or their eyes fall out or something. I mean, you know facilities have deaths and stuff like that, right?
Of course. They've definitely had. Of course. You don't think the Nazis did crazy ass tests like that?
Just like, um, just some radiate. A hundred thousand of people. Not just the Nazis. Oh, no, I know not just the Nazis.
I'm just trying to point to a bad guy. Yeah, I did it. The Japanese. Oh, yeah.
What? Man. We should probably. Maybe we shouldn't talk about it one day, but there's like, uh, like, have you heard about those fucking death labs in Japan after we dropped the bombs?
No. Or before we dropped the bombs, that's what it was. Like they were trying to weaponize diseases. Oh, fine.
And they were exposing their own citizens to them and then they were cutting them open, like sawing them in half while they were alive because they couldn't study what the disease was doing when they died when they were dead when they were dead. So these poor people that had been given some horrible disease, like they would like tie them up and like chop them in half while they're still alive just so they could see what was happening to the organs. That's cool. I guess this was before in my eyes, huh?
Yeah. Can we just have like something that looks inside? Nope. Got to chop them up.
Oh, man. But how come plants don't die? I don't know. Do they?
Well, I mean, like you've seen pictures of turtle everything's overgrown with plant life. Well, that's probably after the fact, right? Oh, you're saying like the ground wouldn't be like when everything be dead or mutated or fucked up. I don't know.
I guess not. The plants absorb, you know, they get radiation. They're turning, you know, well, then how many of you are to adapt, you know, so they're actually releasing the radiation in oxygen form or CO2 or oxygen? Yeah, I see what you're saying.
Kind of like, you know, where we experienced radiation from the sun every day. Yeah. You know, people who like pilots and stuff who fly a lot or like have three times the radiation exposure that people don't fly a lot to. What do you mean?
Like over a lifetime because they're higher up in the atmosphere for a longer time. They have more. What are they? Exposure to radiation.
Higher cancer rate or something? I don't know. I just remember hearing that. I guess that makes sense, but it also doesn't.
I don't know how that works either. Something about being closer to the radiation, I guess. So it's hard to think. It's hard to imagine a bomb hitting nearby because it doesn't seem reasonable.
Like, you know, what's going on in that game? It's not even remotely possible. No, I mean, they have a weapon called a mini mini. Oh, yeah, the mini new.
Yeah, it's not going to be. Whatever. Anyways, it shoots a miniature nuclear bomb that blows up. Oh, yeah, the fat man.
Fat man, that's what's coming up. It's also the name of the first. Yeah, it's really fucked up, right? But anyways, but yeah, I mean, obviously that would never happen.
Oh, speaking of... Well, I was just trying to think, you know, how to even think about how you would react in that situation. Well, it's a bit easier to think about like the grid going down because something else got hit, you know? What do you mean?
You know, like if Niagara Falls gets bombed, like a lot of the East Coast and the East Coast is going to not work. Yeah, and if they blow that and the Hoover Dam at the same time. Yeah, big drill. I mean, we got enough coal.
I mean, I think we'd be fine. What? South Carolina? Yeah.
Oh, right. We got that nuclear power plant. Oh, wait, no, they didn't... No, we do still have some coal plants though.
Yeah, I know. But how disappointing is it that nuclear plant? Like they started building it and just were like, oh, we're out of money and that's it. We're done.
We're going to walk away from it. Yeah. And we have all those nuclear submarines just down the road. Yeah, man, whatever.
I'm sure we're thinking about that. I'm sure we have an air force base. I'm sure we don't have any nuclear weapons there. That's a good point.
I mean, you don't think there's a bomber every single air force base? At least one. Kind of feels like we're a target, doesn't it? Yeah, for sure.
Yeah, major port. Yeah, major port. We don't have a naval base anymore. So, like, a naval base.
Yeah, this is a weapons station. Yeah, this is not really a base like it used to be. Right. But they say it's the naval weapons station just because...
Oh, just because there's the nuclear submarine school there. But they don't call it that. Yeah. They call it the nuclear weapons station.
So what the fuck is over there? I mean, people making nuclear weapons? Yeah. Or just...
Storum? I know it's crazy, right? Like, they have to move nuclear materials sometime, right? Yeah, yeah.
They're not going to mark on the side of a truck. Hey, this has nuclear material in it. No. It's going to look like a regular truck driving by.
It's just one of those freaking convoys. And just, I mean, tires blow, shit happens. I think they bring a lot of stuff in on the water. Yeah, I mean, how crazy is it?
Just... That truck right there has plutonium in the back of it. It's pretty crazy. Yeah.
So, you know, dystopian future. Yeah. So... How do you think you're going to survive in that scenario?
I was just thinking. Are you going to be a scavenger? Rader? To something, you're going to Mad Maxit?
You think you have the skills to piece together a vehicle of some kind? Or fortify... That's one thing. Okay.
No, the vehicle's working. You'd be able to find a vehicle that worked. You would. You'd still be able to pull gas out of gas pumps.
You'd be able to find it. For a while, yeah. For a while. I mean, since that's another thing though, if not everyone died, which technically in the game, I guess technically not everyone died.
Because you still find remnants of people who were there recently. Sure. So, and that's a hundred years, right? But everybody who's somewhat normal is all from the vaults, right?
Yeah. I don't know. No, but you see like there's all people who have recently died within a week. Oh yeah.
Because they look dead. People, they don't look like skeletons. Some of them. So that means if, I mean, yeah, 25 years, all gas is gone.
Unless you find a gas ganister in someone's house that hadn't been raided. It got overlooked. And which wasn't? And I think you'd be better off getting a motorcycle.
Was it four? Yes, everything's going to be ruined anyway. What is it? Four?
Follow four? You wake up and it's like a hundred years after the bomb drop? No, it's, I think it's a couple hundred. Yeah, it's way later.
But 76 is early on. Twenty years. After 25 years. Yeah.
So they're saying it dropped in the 50s? No, because it dropped in 20s. I can't remember the dates, but I just, oh, it's because it's all. Yeah.
I thought the minute was 1976. No, no, no. Yeah. That's what a lot of people think of it.
It's because 1776 in Independence Day actually be kind of dope if it was in the 70s. Yeah. No, it's basically all different timeline. Like the bombs dropped in 2000 something.
I got you. I got you. But anyways, I think I think it'd be sick. Get a motorcycle.
I think see, depending on how close you were to the nuclear blast, you're also going to have electromagnetic shockwave that's going to fry all electronics. So any newer cars not going to really work. Well, I mean, just think about anything that's 25 years old. Yeah.
Think about a car that's for a motorcycle that's sat and not done anything for 25 years. I think you'd be able to find some motorcycle's parked in a garage or something. Cars in a garage. Because that's the idea, right?
That the fallout is mostly gone. Yeah. You're not getting radiation everywhere. You walk.
There's only certain areas like close to the blast site or for some reason nuclear material waste bins or everywhere. Okay. So I guess, yeah. I guess, like, fictionally, instead of trying to make it too realistic, you're in a vault.
Okay. I'm in a vault and you wake up. Like, you think it's kind of bullshit, but you get the alert on your phone like, why you got not too long ago about how there's a fucking missile coming at you. You can't do it.
You can't do it. Can you imagine how those people felt? A whole state, dude. I was watching for a while, too, because where you're going to go?
Where you're going to go? Like, what we are doing anyway? You hear I get that. I'm going to start driving east or west.
I mean, do you think you even have time? I mean, if everybody in Charleston gets that notification. I'm on the side of the road driving east. Go ahead and pull me over, cop.
I'll stop and take it a... See, that's an area I do think I should probably have a motorcycle. Maybe I should just buy one of those. Just for that.
Yeah. I mean, seriously. How are you going to get out of here? No, yeah.
Every car is going to be on the road if everybody gets that alert. Hey, at least we're not on James Hahnert-Daun-Zahn. Two lanes on the road. Might be better to be on the water.
Oh, yeah, sure. You could boat. Yeah, because you just drive straight out. And it takes longer on the water, though.
Yeah, it's a straight line, though. Oh, no, no, no gas. Yeah, that's the problem. Anyway, this is why I want to learn Fly Helicopter.
I just have one part in my backyard. Cool. Just in case. Just in case.
Yeah, let me know when you can afford that helicopter. I saw someone driving one down the road and back of a truck like a old beat up. Oh, see, they're ahead of you. It looked like it was from the game vault.
I guess how bad it looked. That's a set dude from Mad Max. I think I could build that helicopter. Yeah.
Anyways, cool, good feeling. Anyway, you pop out of the vault. I think the first thing I'm doing is going to find shelter. Okay.
