In the harrowing days of puberty, evangelical young women and girls were foisted into a shame spiral that kept them tame and readily codependent for…maybe their entire lives. Their every move governed by the grave understanding that it was their job to “not cause your brother to stumble,” they walked about with hunched shoulders, tucked their butts, and generally shut their every desire or bodily sensation DOWN, and fast.
