The offense speaks up before the pads pop

from Dawgman Radio: A Washington Huskies athletics podcast · host 247Sports, Washington Huskies, Washington football, Washington Huskies athletics, Football, Baseball

As of now, John Donovan has ruled no one out. And although he doesn't want to have to wait until game week to announce a starting quarterback, he hasn't ruled out the idea of using more than one signal caller, if necessary. This is the reality of Washington's current quarterback battle, and the first-year offensive coordinator spoke to the media Tuesday a day ahead of when the pads could officially pop.In other words, he hasn't really seen what any of the four scholarship quarterbacks can do when the bullets are actually flying, so to speak. And they wouldn't be allowed to go live in any event. But when the team can finally go full pads, that's when you know the speed of the game will go up too, as will the stakes.Donovan talked about the four QBs - Jacob Sirmon, Dylan Morris, Ethan Garbers, and Kevin Thomson - what he's looking for in the position battle, and what it's going to take for one or more of them to separate themselves from the pack.He also talked about the movement along the offensive line, utilizing the running backs in the pass game like they did at Jacksonville last season, and more. The media also caught up with junior offensive lineman Jaxson Kirkland, who confirmed his move to left tackle, as well as his 30-pound weight loss, and senior tight end Cade Otton, who spoke on the challenges he faces as he takes on even more of a leadership role within his room now that the other senior TE - Jacob Kizer - has opted out of the season due to COVID-19 concerns.
