The Ogre

"The Ogre" is a short story by Andrew Lang following Antonio, a simple-minded but good-natured boy who flees his mother's anger and stumbles upon a surprisingly kind ogre willing to take him into service. Over several years, the ogre gifts Antonio magical objects — a donkey that pours out precious gems, a table-cloth that reveals hidden riches, and a stick with a very different purpose.
