In which a young and hopeful Kit ventures through gloomy streets to find his mother asleep amidst the solemnities of a small chapel, only to rouse her amidst the rebukes of a fiery preacher. Still resolute and full of purpose, Kit persuades his mother to depart on a hopeful journey, leaving behind the comforting noise of familiar children and stepping into the unknown with assistance from a courteous stranger.
