The Old Man and the Sea|老人与海
from 经典英文绘本
原著作者|欧内斯特·海明威 Long long ago within a small fishing village there lived an old fisherman named Santiago He was very poor and his clothes were old and patched But his eyes were blue like the sea cheerful and undefeated For eighty-four days he caught no fish He is unlucky the villagers said But a young boy named Manolin loved him I believe in you the boy said bringing him hot coffee Before sunrise the old man rowed out alone He went out too far into the deep dark blue water Suddenly a giant weight pulled the line It was a Marlin eighteen feet long bigger than the boat itself I will stay with you until I am dead the old man whispered For three days they fought The line cut his hands and his body screamed with pain Finally he pulled the giant fish close and harpooned its heart He tied the fish to his boat to sail home But the blood in the water called the sharks They came like hateful blue shadows The old man fought back First with his harpoon Snap It broke Then with his knife Then with his wooden oar He fought until he had only the broken handle left A man can be destroyed but not defeated he thought When he arrived at the harbour it was night The sharks had eaten everything Only the long white skeleton remained The next morning the boy saw the old man's bleeding hands and cried The sharks beat me the old man said softly No the boy said firmly They did not beat you You caught the fish Up in his shack the old man fell asleep He was dreaming of lions playing on the golden beaches of Africa前往小宇宙评论区与主播互动
