The original plot is significantly altered by Uglies' conclusion

The events of Uglies take place several hundred years in the future, on a version of Earth that was devastated by fossil fuels and subsequently rebuilt using energy derived from plants on HD Movies Soap2Day. All teenagers get to get special surgery to improve their appearance and future prospects on their sixteenth birthday, in a world that is still oddly fixated on physical beauty. Tally Youngblood has spent her entire life anticipating her metamorphosis, but because Peris is two months older than she is, he will arrive before her.
