Bei den Academy Awards gab es dann doch einen Überraschungssieger: Das Rassismus-Roadmovie "Green Book" von Peter Farrelly wurde bei der 91. Oscar-Verleihung im Dolby Theatre von Hollywood zum besten Film des Jahres gekürt. Damit komplettierte das in den Südstaaten der 1960er-Jahre spielende Werk ein heuer breites Preisträgerfeld bei der Glamourgala der Filmindustrie. So konnte "Green Book" neben der Königskategorie noch zwei weitere Trophäen auf sich vereinen: Die für das beste Originaldrehbuch und die Nebendarstellerkrone an Mahershala Ali als schwarzer Jazzpianist, der mit seinem italostämmigen Chauffeur im US-Süden auf Tournee geht.
