The Other Woman With No Shame: Accountability vs. Regret
from The Scarlet Edit: Infidelity, Divorce, Starting Over.
I was the other woman for five years and I don't regret it. That's the sentence that breaks people. The comments roll in every week telling me I should be ashamed, that I lack morals, that I should be performing remorse on demand. I'm not doing that. I never will. And in this episode I get into why.The expectation that we have to apologize, perform regret, and beg for forgiveness after any choice that falls outside the so-called norm has nothing to do with growth. It's theater. Real accountability is understanding the choice you made, knowing why you'd choose differently now, and taking responsibility for the impact. Shame is hating yourself forever on a schedule that makes other people comfortable. Those are two very different things, and I chose accountability.I also get into the myth that the other woman is the architect of a betrayal she had no contractual obligation to prevent. The framing that I somehow ruined a marriage I wasn't in is wild to me. I wasn't in a relationship with his wife. I wasn't strategizing against her. I was loving someone who loved me back, and his marriage was his to manage. Every affair has its own anatomy. There's no one-size-fits-all moral verdict that applies cleanly to every story, and the people loudest in my comments are usually the ones who've never lived inside one.You are not defined by one chapter of your life. That's the whole point of this show. I took everything I learned from that relationship, I let go of the sadness, and I built a life I love. I want every woman listening to know she can do the same.Missed Hope's episodes? Check them out here and here🌱 Tired of performing fine?
