The Passions That Satisfy Us

Advertising trains people to treat possessions as medicine for an inner lack. Coveting begins in the heart and refuses to rest in God's good provision; in Jesus' parable, God requires the rich fool's soul despite the goods he gathered. Christ offers another source of satisfaction. His finished work on the cross reconciles sinners to God, and His living water quiets the heart like a weaned child resting with its mother.
