The People of God

Peter's speech includes two elements. In their centre are two Old Testament verses. They form a bridge between the two subjects of Judas's betrayal and the election of his replacement. It was symbolically important for the full complement of twelve eyewitnesses to be maintained at this formative stage in the kingdom. In this section, we draw out three characteristics of the people of God: being prayerful, trusting in the scriptures, and being witnesses for Christ.
