‘Tis the Season – The Perfect Tree Genesis 2:15-17  The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.” (NIV) Luke 2:6-7 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. (NIV) Mark 6:3 Isn't this the carpenter? Isn't this Mary's son and the brother of James, Joseph,[1] Judas and Simon? Aren't his sisters here with us?" And they took offense at him. (NIV) 1 Peter 2:24 - He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. (ESV) 1. We choose a beautiful tree - God’s tree was brutal. Acts 2:23 - Jesus was handed over to you, and you killed him. With the help of evil men, you nailed him to a cross. But God knew all this would happen. It was his plan—a plan he made long ago. (ERV) 2. We look for a straight tree – God needed a strong one. Colossians 2:13-14 - 13 You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. 14 He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.  (NLT) 3. We cover our trees with lights – the cross was covered by THE light. John 8:12 - 12 Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” “NLT” 4. We put our trees by the window for neighbors to see – God’s tree was on display for all mankind to see. Matthew 4:16 - the people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned. (NIV) Matthew 4:16 - People sitting out their lives in the dark saw a huge light; Sitting in that dark, dark country of death, they watched the sun come up. MSG
