The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit - R. A. Torrey

R. A. Torrey’s The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit serves as a foundational theological treatise that defines the Holy Spirit not as an abstract force, but as a divine Person possessing intellect, emotion, and will. The text underscores the Spirit’s full deity and essential role in the Trinity, while detailing his specific functions in regeneration, sanctification, and providing spiritual power for ministry. Torrey emphasizes that believers must yield their lives fully to the Spirit's control to experience victory over sin and effective service. Historically, this work emerged during the early 20th-century revivalist movement, helping to solidify conservative Protestant doctrine regarding spiritual experiences. By analyzing various biblical names and attributes, Torrey encourages an intimate, practical relationship with the Spirit as a constant Teacher and Comforter. Ultimately, the sources present a call for the church to recover its spiritual vitality through total dependence on the Holy Spirit’s presence. This podcast was created with the assistance of AI.
