The Phantom Frequency

On July 24, 2026, a routine live stream was interrupted by a faint, synthesized voice speaking code over a turned-off radio. Within days, the same signal began bleeding into baby monitors, smart speakers, and car audio systems around the globe. In this episode of The Evening Fog, we trace the strange phenomenon known as the Phantom Frequency: The Ghosts in the Shortwave: The history of Cold War "Numbers Stations" like The Lincolnshire Poacher, Cherry Ripe, and Russia's mysterious MDZhB ("The Buzzer"). The Bleed: How an untraceable signal bypassed open radio bands and breached modern consumer technology without leaving an IP or server trace. Under the Static: The discovery hidden at 22 kilohertz, where visual spectrographs revealed topographic maps of subterranean infrastructure. Are these signals an automated relic waking up, or a modern stress-test on our connected world? Listen closely, and check your speakers.
