🌑🕳️ THE PIT | FALLING TEACHES

What waits beneath the earth, beyond the reach of sunlight, where even the gods and spirits fear to wander? Tonight on Folklore & Flourish, we descend into the terrifying depths of world mythology, exploring the places where darkness conceals ancient monsters, forgotten souls, and truths that cannot be discovered from above. In the traditions of Lesotho, we encounter Ditaolane and Kammapa, the extraordinary tale of a monstrous creature that swallowed nearly the entire world. Vietnamese folklore brings us Thạch Sanh, the courageous hero whose encounter with a monstrous eagle leads him into a hidden underground realm. From Korea comes Princess Bari, the abandoned daughter who journeys beyond death itself in search of the life-giving waters that might save her parents. Finally, the Javanese legend of Bima and Dewa Ruci takes us beneath the ocean, where a warrior discovers that the greatest mysteries of existence may be hidden within the smallest and most unexpected places. Across these four traditions, descent is more than a journey into darkness. It is a confrontation with everything that seems impossible to overcome: abandonment, monstrous forces, death, and the limits of our own understanding. Some descend to rescue others, some to recover what has been lost, and others to discover knowledge that can only be earned through extraordinary trials. As our October journey through Witches & the Underworld continues, tonight's theme of Descent and lesson, Falling Teaches, invite us to consider whether the places we most fear entering might also hold something worth discovering. The darkness does not promise safety, and not everyone who enters emerges unchanged. Sometimes the only path forward leads down. 🔮🖤 #FolkloreAndFlourish #ThePit #FallingTeaches #WitchesAndTheUnderworld #WorldMythology #AfricanFolklore #VietnameseFolklore #KoreanMythology #JavaneseMythology #UnderworldMyths #OctoberFolklore
