The Pit Of Despair

I held a contest on the 'Storytime With Shade' Facebook page where I asked people to submit short story 'starters.' The ones that had the most reacts after the week was done would have a story made from their 'starter.'  This story was tied as runner up with the opening line, "A young man found himself in a pit of despair, unfortunately for him this was an actual pit."  Curious where the story goes from there?
