The Poor People’s Campaign – A National Call for Moral Revival

On June 8th, hosts Richard Mabion and Terri Wilke will discuss the Poor People’s Campaign with Mary Akerstrom, who has been involved with the movement since Rev. Barber came to Kansas in 2016. The Poor People's Campaign, or Poor People's March on Washington, was a 1968 effort to gain economic justice for poor people in the United States. It was organized by Martin Luther King, Jr., and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). This show is about the 2018 US anti-poverty campaign The Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for a Moral Revival, named after the Poor People's Campaign and led by Co-chairs William Barber II and Liz Theoharis. The Poor People’s Campaign now calls for educational dialogue and potential future action related to the intersections of systemic racism, poverty, militarism and ecological devastation. These “four evils” build on the “evil triplets” that Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. denounced in launching the original Poor People’s Campaign of 1967–68 :  racism, poverty and militarism.
