from Pelecanus · host Pelecanus

Welcome to The Possibilists! The Possibilists is a podcast collaboration between The Smithsonian Earth Optimism and Pelecanus. https://conservationcommons.si.edu https://www.pelecanus.org In this partnership we spotlight conservationists working with a possibilistic attitude for solutions-based efforts to tackle the world's critical environmental struggles. We’re attempting to reframe the narrative around conservation to show that conservation successes are possible through changes in attitude and implementation of intentional change. In this episode of The Possibilists we talk with Dr. Rafael Chiaravalloti, a Smithsonian postdoctoral fellow working in the Pantanal area of Brazil, his home nation. Rafael is a biologist, anthropologist, and conservation social scientist with experience all over the world, and over 10 years of experience in the Pantanal where he has focused on the sustainability of socio-ecological systems. Rafael went from working with biological resources to working with local communities to understand their sustainable agricultural processes. His work, including two books, is the kind of thing that conservation needs more of.
