The Power of Black Women - Women's History Month

In Special Elections across the country and in the 2018 Mid-term Elections, Black Women showed up and showed out as they made their presence known to the electorate across the nation. In 2018 Black Women were elected at every level of government, in many cases for the first time.  In Houston, Texas nineteen Black Women were elected to judgeships the most and for the first time ever. In Georgia, Stacey Abrams narrowly lost the race for governor. There were eight Black Women elected to congress. And in North Carolina, a Black Woman was elected Sheriff of Pitt County. In Maryland, another powerful woman, Dr. Maya Rockeymoore Cummings, briefly campaigned for governor before having to suspend her campaign. Tonight we speak with Dr. Maya Rockeymoore Cummings as the newly elected Chairwoman of the Maryland Democratic Party on the future of Black Politics in Maryland.
