Oh, wait a minute. I don't have my headphones on. Ah, now I can hear myself. So now I can monitor myself.
And with this spiffy little road broadcaster, Duo, I have zero latency in my self-monitoring. Oh, hi everybody. Welcome to The Daily Grateful. It is Thursday.
My name is Michael Gross. And on Thursdays, we talk about podcasting. And I thought that I would like, you know, kind of say, okay, we're gonna talk about podcasting, but we're gonna talk about other stuff as well. Because my one lesson for you about podcasting today is, you know, what makes a podcast successful?
There's a lot of things, but I'm gonna tell you what the main one is, the absolute positive main one. And it's a rough one. You gotta work at it. It's called consistency.
If you're going to create a podcast and it's going to come out every Friday, you make damn sure that you put that thing out every Friday because without consistency, you're not going to keep listeners. I walk my happy ass in here every damn day, five days a week. And I record a podcast for you. So let's talk about that.
So why is consistency important? What does it do for you? Well, people come to know that, you know, if you're doing a daily podcast, like I am, which by the way is a hell of a lot harder than I thought it was gonna be. All right, I came from radio.
As a matter of fact, I was spoiled ass rotten in radio. I had a nationally syndicated gardening show. I was on just under 300 stations at one time across the country. I had an agent named Stew in Chicago.
You know, it was, you know, I used to walk into the studio down in St. Petersburg and everybody because I made them more money than anybody else did. I had the highest rated show on the network. And it was only on Saturdays.
That was just on Saturdays. Kicked everybody's butt. Went after the national gardening shows that were out there that I competed with. Well, there was only one that I really competed with, a guy by the name of Jerry and his last name escapes me.
But, you know, he's been around for 100 years. He's now dead, but he was around for 100 years. And I crushed him. I crushed him in the ratings.
And it was just, you know, so I came from that background. Well, I did, we show up on Saturdays and do one show. I never did a daily show, except if I filled in for somebody for a week during the day, you know, during the week, I would do that. But I never just every day went in and did a show.
And when I decided to do this podcast, I decided to create the Daily Grateful with Michael Crows. I was now saying, all right, I'm gonna do this five days a week. And it's gonna be under 10 minutes usually. Usually it's like six to seven, eight minutes.
Sometimes 10, I think yesterday we went longer. And we might today, who knows? I don't know. It's just how this thing goes.
But I said, well, this will be easy. I'll just sit in my happy ass down on a weekend. And I will crank out five shows. I'll just sit here and crank out five shows.
And I did that and boy, did they suck. They were just terrible. I would listen to these things and oh my God, they were awful. And I'm saying, ah, not that I'm, you know, Superman right now, but I'm hell of a lot better.
And it was when I started doing this, you know, doing them a weekend advance. And why was that? Because I, it was a freshness wasn't there. Right now, this is what days did it to this is Wednesday.
I know that because I did my injection of, of my diabetes stuff that you lose weight with, but I'm doing it for the, it was in pick. I did my, it was in pick today. So I'm recording Thursday show right now, the day before. And there are times when I get up at six o'clock in the morning and I'll record the show for the day at six o'clock in the morning and it's fresh with all this good information.
But the important thing is consistency. Every damn day, the people who entrust me by subscribing to me on Apple podcast or wherever else you subscribe to my show on know that their phone is going to go dingy dingy and I will be there every morning. You can get some kind of positivity out of me every day because I'm going to consistently be there. So what does consistency do for you?
Okay, what does it do for you? I'll tell you, I'm going to just name some things here. It builds trust and reliability. When you are consistent, people are trusting of you.
They know they can depend on you. It enhances productivity and efficiency. If you are consistent at anything, no matter what it is, if you are consistently doing it, then you're going to be more productive and you're going to be more efficient. And by the way, me doing this every day, it facilitates growth and improvement.
The show is getting better. I'm having to do less editing. When I started doing this daily grateful thing, I had been off radio for a couple of years and I decided to take this on and I had not realized how not used to getting in front of a microphone and just talking, I was editing like crazy. Now I rarely edit unless I say a bad word or a real bad word.
I'll say bad words, but I rarely say real bad words. So, but if I say a real bad word or if I cough, if I have to cough, I have to add it, that's the only time I'm editing now is if I cough. So that's, yeah, the other thing that consistency does, it reinforces accountability. Okay, when you're consistent, you're holding yourself accountable.
I'm holding myself accountable to you wonderful people who take the time to listen to this. And as far as marketing is concerned, it establishes a strong brand identity. I noticed this on TikTok. People who are consistent on TikTok are successful on TikTok.
My daughter who is not consistent on TikTok is doing okay, but she has a girlfriend and a co-host of one of her podcast who goes by the name of Shut Up Tiffany on TikTok. Look her up, she's there every damn day. Every damn day, she's there usually doing a live. And so, you know, check that out.
It helps with your self-control, it establishes discipline, it builds a positive reputation because when you're doing this and people can depend on you, it just helps, okay? And it encourages better habits. And since I've been doing this every day, I'm getting better habits. I'm not eating better, but I'm eating a lot less thanks to the ozimpic.
And by the way, that's not why I got into a ozimpic. I got into a ozimpic because my A13, they did blood work and it was at 11.3 or something. And I said, no, no, no, no, I've only got one kidney, I gotta take care of that. We gotta fix this, I went to the doctor, I said do whatever you want, I will be your humble and obedient service servant.
And she said, okay, don't worry, I'm gonna put you on this stuff. I said, okay, she goes, oh, you're gonna lose weight too. I said, okay, but that's not why I'm doing it. If there's something better to get the A1C down, that I will do whatever you say.
She said, let's go with this. I said, okay, A1C is heading down, I get blood work. I guess I'm getting blood work on Friday and then next week sometime, I will see what it all is. So it ensures long-term success.
And for me, long-term success is important because who knows how much longer I've got on this world? I've got more years behind me than I do ahead, I mean, that's pretty, I'm sure. But while I'm doing this, I wanna make some kind of contribution. So that is it.
So you wanna have a successful podcast and Thursday's podcast day, how do you do podcasting? It's just the one thing I'm gonna tell you, be consistent. If you do a once a month podcast, damn it, once a month you do the podcast. If you do a once a week, which is the average, make sure you do that once a week podcast.
Just make sure of it, all right? It's just, it plays a fundamental role in building trust and making you productive. It's just a really good thing to do. So as I close out now, I hope you're excited about podcasting.
And if you're not, that's fine. But I hope you're thinking about being consistent, all right? Really good parents are very consistent with their kids. And when I was a really good parent, I was consistent with my kids when I sucked as a parent, I wasn't.
So, and I knew that. So I worked really hard to be consistent with my kids. And you know what? I got five pretty cool kids, they're all adults now.
And I got five pretty cool grandkids. And the only thing I'm consistent with them is is that I love each and every one of them so much. When they see Grandpa, they're gonna get hugs. I'll see you tomorrow.
