The Power of Grace 
Titus 2:14 "Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works." This verse is the beating heart of the gospel within the pastoral epistles. After declaring that grace saves (vv. 11–12) and that hope sustains (v. 13), Paul now reveals the purpose and product of redemption. The Christian's expectation of Christ's return rests upon the foundation of His past sacrifice. The verse begins with the personal pronoun "Who" — referring back to "our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ." In one breath, Paul affirms both His deity and His atonement. Christ's self-giving was voluntary, vicarious, and victorious. He did not merely offer something for us; He gave Himself for us. This is substitutionary redemption — the righteous dying for the unrighteous.
