THE POWER OF ONBOARDING w/ Asst. Superintendent RICK LOPEZ...leadership to make organizations GREAT
from Team Performance Coaching · host David Hopper
Rick Lopez is the Assistant Superintendent of Placentia Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) in Orange County, California, as well as an adjunct professor at Hope Lutheran University. He shares the core values of PYLUSD, as well as their onboarding process. Onboarding is about how you bring people into your organization. This is a lost art in the workplace and one of the most important things we can do as an organization. The better we are at onboarding, the more profitable, effective, and happy we will be. Onboarding starts at your job description, interview, application process...far before you even bring the new member to the team! Onboarding is about how you are celebrating a new employee and the way you continue to celebrate great moments! Onboarding well, shows in how you interview and follow up immediately with candidates that are treating this process as a life change. Be intentional with how you onboard based on who you are. As Mr. Lopez shows, they onboard with this in mind. When onboarding we look for Humble, Hungry (self-starter, initiative), and Smarts (more than education, it is about people). We look for Excellence, Collaboration, Integrity, Innovation. People are giving us their most precious treasure (their children)...we need to keep this in mind as we onboard the best of the best in this organization and do it well. Do we all in our organizations, onboard as if this is the most important thing we do? Onboarding keys: #1 Celebrate moments #2 Connect everyone with a Mentor Partner #3 Check in often ~ the highest level leaders to the lowest level worker ~ stay connected #4 Make the process of growth and promotion obvious for people to follow Integrate ~ Elevate ~ Celebrate
