These disciples have been on a binge and are drunk.”Pg. 131PETER’S DEFENSE OF THE CHURCH Pages. 132-140The early church was a humble group of people who were overwhelmed with what they had heard and seen of theLord Jesus during His three-year ministry. Now they became beneficiaries of the Holy Spirit. And Peter, as theirauthorized spokesman, defended their actions, saying, “For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but thethird hour of the day. But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; and it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh” (vv. Acts 2:15–17).Read Joel’s Prophecy““And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shallprophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions. Even on the male and femaleservants in those days I will pour out my Spirit. “And I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood andfire and columns of smoke. The sun shall be turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, before the great and awesomeday of the Lord comes. And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Forin Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be those who escape, as the Lord has said, and among the survivors shallbe those whom the Lord calls.”Joel 2:28–32, ESVIt is being fulfilled in the following ways:1. Pentecost is a day of extraordinary events2. Pentecost was Christ’s day of glory.“Peter says. “We saw Him on the hill of ascension, where He blessed us, then rose to heaven. Now He is exalted tothe right hand of God. He has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you nowsee and hear (v. 33). This is the Lord’s great and glorious day.” Pg. 137For more information about this group, please visit their website at reformationboise.com.
