The Prize Is Real
from The Gen X Disciple · host Gen X Disciple
Gen X doesn't need a lecture about working hard. We're the generation that absorbed a serious work ethic and has spent decades proving we can train for what we want. But this episode asks the harder question underneath the effort: what exactly are you training for, and is it worth what you're putting in?1 Corinthians 9:24–25 drops Paul's athletic metaphor with a sharp contrast: the Corinthian athletes he's describing were training with everything they had — for a crown that would wilt within days. Paul says we're running for a crown that lasts forever, and asks us to run accordingly. The episode digs into where Gen X typically directs its most disciplined effort (the moving financial target, the next career level, the life optimization project) and whether any of it qualifies as the prize worth training for."Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever." (1 Corinthians 9:24–25, NIV) Today's challenge: write down what you're currently training for — be honest — then make one deliberate reallocation of effort toward something that actually lasts.
