The problem with compliments

We're starting a campaign.... to give compliments freely, accept them gracefully and encourage others to do the same.What do you say when someone gives you a compliment? "Thanks", or do you brush it off? Do you want to make excuses? Do you want to play it down? And more importantly why? Compliments are rarely given for any reason except that it's nice, it's reactionary, they are usually given generously. Let's assume that's the case, and so we should accept with the same spirit. It's NOT a gift exchange, you are not obliged to return them.Accepting a compliment can be really difficult, some struggle more than others.
