Danyel Smith is a journalist, music critic, novelist and editor from California. She’s interviewed music's most influential artists and covered Hip Hop before it was an acceptable, mainstream genre of music. She’s widely known for her position as former Editor-in-Chief of VIBE. Danyel’s current project is HRDCVR, a culture magazine made by a diverse team for a diverse world. She cofounded the magazine with her husband, Elliott Wilson. We got to know each other through HRDCVR. She’s currently teaching at Syracuse University in New York City, and working on her third book, “She Is Every Woman", a history of black women in pop music.
