The Prodigal Son

Two sons want their father’s wealth without truly loving him. The younger son runs away and ruins himself, while the obedient older son stays home yet trusts his moral record to secure what he wants. The father welcomes the returning son and tenderly pleads with the angry one, showing that both rebellion and self-righteousness leave people lost. Jesus is the faithful older brother who pays the full cost to bring sinners into God’s family. Both kinds of lost children can stop ruling themselves and come home.
