CONTEMPLATIONTo contemplate the miraculous repentance of the thief on the Cross: But the other one rebuked him: “Have you no fear of God seeing you are under the same sentence?” (St. Luke 23:40):* How the wise thief sensed God’s closeness in his suffering, repented and prayed to God for salvation, while the suffering of the foolish thief incited him to blaspheme God;* How I, who am also a thief as a result of sin, should be like the wise thief, whose suffering did not estrange him from God but rather drew him closer to God—to God and to salvation.
