The Psychology of Storytelling: Getting Back to Stories that Instil Grit and Resilience in Children

from Support, Protect, Empower - The Project Purpose Podcast · host Rachelle Innocent

The Psychology of Storytelling: Getting Back to Stories that Instil Grit and Resilience in Children We are discussing the importance of storytelling for children, especially during their formative years (0-8).   More specifically, we are critiquing the history of storytelling for children at the turn of the 20th century. Modern day children stories continuously fail to provide children with objective realities from which to explore complex, real world themes.    For centuries, myths, folklore and fables served to help children develop a strong foundation of mental resilience, grit and perseverance. The changes to the quality and depth of children's stories plays a significant role  as to why children lack the required tools to deal with many of the challenges and complexities they face in life, today.   #Education #Storytelling #CharacterDevelopment    *RESOURCES*  - Mickey Mouse Monopoly Documentary on Vimeo ($50 to rent)-- You can rent this for free at any university if you have access to a student with a library card: https://vimeo.com/ondemand/12335   - Trends in Academia - Undergraduate and Graduate Report (Excerpt): https://rachellerealist.wordpress.com/2021/03/03/trends-in-academia-undergraduate-and-graduate-report/   - The Under Ground History of Modern Education, John Taylor Gatto   For all topics related to renewing and rebuilding family, communities and relationships, check out our blogs!  We post bi-weekly:  https://www.spe-projectpurpose.com/blogs   Make sure to come visit us, subscribe to the website, and join our Member's Area for more valuable content:   *SOCIALS*  Website: www.spe-projectpurpose.com   Facebook Page: @ProjectPurposeSPE  Instagram: @ProjectPurposeSPE or my personal account @realistrae  Twitter: @Purpose_SPE  Pinterest: @ProjectPurposeSPE   YouTube: Project Purpose SPE If you'd like to read my research thesis, "ADHD: Is it a Social Construct or does it have a Neurophysiological Basis?" you can find it at the following address: https://rachellerealist.wordpress.com.   I'm more than happy to answer your questions, feel free to send an email to: [email protected]  The pre-recorded parent-child workshops are on the way for children between the ages of 4-8; 9-13; and 14-17.   Be sure to subscribe to the website to know once they have been released!  Do you like the intro/outro music?   Check out the artist on Spotify:  Artist Name: Valdii Song Name: I Learn
