The Queer History of Halloween: Drag, Ghost Stories & Hillcrest’s Nightmare on Normal Street Ticket Giveaway

Halloween has always been more than costumes and candy — for the LGBTQ+ community, it’s a night of freedom, self-expression, and fabulous chaos. In this spooky and hilarious episode of Hot Air, host Josh MacLean dives into the queer history of Halloween — from the early underground drag balls to today’s massive LGBTQ+ celebrations in Hillcrest and beyond. Then, stick around for a ghostly listener story straight from Provincetown, where a gay man’s Halloween night takes a chilling (and slightly fabulous) turn after a mysterious presence seems eager to join the drag show… from beyond the grave. 👻💄 Finally, we’re teaming up with Fabulous Hillcrest for a special Halloween giveaway! Learn how to enter to win two tickets to San Diego’s biggest LGBTQ+ Halloween party, Nightmare on Normal Street — the ultimate queer Halloween block party full of music, drag, dancing, and magic. ✨ Whether you love queer history, spooky stories, or just a good costume moment, this episode delivers laughs, chills, and community spirit all in one.
