There is a distinct difference between waiting and waiting patiently. Most of us know how to wait while burning with internal irritation. We wait in line while tapping our feet, we wait for a reply while re-checking our phones, and we waiton God’s promises while mentally building three different backup plans just in case He doesn't show up on time. ​In Psalm 37:7, David doesn't just call us to endure time—he calls us to an attitude of heart. When we look sideways at people who skip steps, cut corners, or live selfishly and yet seem to reap non-stop success, the temptation is to jump ship on our own obedience. “Why am I working so hard to do the right thing when it seems to pay off more for those who don't?” David’s counsel is strikingly direct: Stop looking sideways. ​Fretting is an energy leak. It burns through the spiritual, emotional, and physical reserves God gave you for today’s obedience, wasting them on someone else’s trajectory. When David tells us to "be still before the Lord," he iscalling us to anchor our security in God's character rather than our current circumstances. When you settle into stillness, you aren't resigning to defeat—you are resting in ultimate authority. You are acknowledging that theGod who set the stars in motion has not forgotten the details of your life, nor has He turned a blind eye to injustice. ​Comparison robs peace; but surrender restores it. Looking sideways at others' apparent success will always distract you from God’s work in your own life.​Patient waiting is active faith, in refusing to rush ahead of God orcompromise your values proves that you believe He is truly in charge. ​God’s silence is not His absence, just because you don't see immediate movement doesn't mean God isn't actively orchestrating what's best for you behind thescenes. Psalm 37:7 is a call to unclench your hands. It reminds us that silence before God is often the strongest declaration of faith you can make—choosing quiet confidence over anxious hustle. The verse teaches that in relinquishing control, peace comes when you stop trying to manage things never meant for your shoulders—like someone else's trajectory or God's clock. Success built on compromised values or shortcuts is short-lived. David reminds us that another person's apparent win isn't a reflection of God's neglect toward you. ​Take a moment to pause today and take deep breaths right now and reflect - ​Where in my life am I currently waiting on God, but doing so with an anxious, fretting spirit? Whosetrajectory success am I comparing myself to, and how is it stealing my peace? ​What is one thing I need to drop at God's feet today so I can truly be still? God sees the full timeline, not just the snapshot of today. Evil devices or deceitful strategies may seem to work temporarily, but ultimate accountability and righteousness belong to God.
