Between 1949 and 1959, for a decade, the State of Israel was under the "rationing policy", a resource management policy unlike anything else in the economy as we know it today - the period is now known as the period of austerity. The method worked in such a way that every citizen in Israel received a notebook with coupons that allowed him to buy a limited quantity of basic products. On the one hand the quantity of the products was relatively small and on the other hand the state took care to enforce cheap prices on the products.
