The headline event was the Fed's monetary policy meeting. As many economists expected, Fed officials kept the short-term Federal Funds rate unchanged at 5.25% to 5.5%. That's a 22-year high. Fed Chief Jerome Powell said that he expects the economy to soften in the coming months which will help lower inflation.
