The Real Thing Part II

from You Say Hosted by Gina Worten

Emma brought this subject to Gina, and Gina came back with numbers. Somewhere between 89 and 93 percent of young people and social media users regularly compare themselves to other people. About 12 percent of everyday human thought is some form of comparison. The average teenage girl spends two to three hours a day making a post worth posting. We say comparison is the thief of joy. Gina's argument is that it does not stop there. It takes your sense of worth with it, and then it takes the motivation to do the thing God actually put in front of you. They work through the two places it hits hardest, appearance and social media, then go to scripture for the pattern. Israel demanding a king so they could be like the other nations. Abraham getting impatient four chapters short of the promise. Emma's picture is the one that sticks: if we all got everything on the same schedule, life would read like a Hallmark movie, and He took the time to write all of our stories separately. Scripture in this episode: 1 Samuel 8:4-9 and 18-20, Galatians 1:10, Genesis 17 and 21. If you are stuck in the comparison loop right now, this one is for you.
