The Law given by God to Israel was inadequate. There were many things the Law could not do. The Law cannot give the Holy Spirit, cannot justify, cannot invalidate the earlier promise to Abraham. If the Law cannot do all these things, then why did God give it to Israel in the first place? What was God's reason for graciously giving the Law to Israel?
