Among the new phones and the synthetic DNA, the states quietly sent smaller things: a cookie recipe, a whale bone, a pin made by hand. Chloe Papadakis, Cedar Valley’s cultural events planner, asks what a small town would send forward to people it will never meet, and why it would not be the newest thing on the shelf.
