One of the most exciting spiritual breakthroughs is to awaken to the reality of salvation by grace. In grace, I do good things because I am God’s child, rather than doing good things in hopes of becoming God’s child. As Lash likes to say, “I do because I am not in order to be.” Jesus teaches this idea in Luke 6:43-45 through the illustration of a fig tree.
