The Relative Universe: A Relaxing Read of the Theory of Relativity and Its Influence by Sir Arthur Stanley Eddington, read by Nancy

from ZZZ - The podcast that helps you sleep · host ZZZ Media

Sir Arthur Stanley Eddington (1882 to 1944) was a prominent British astrophysicist and mathematician. He is best known for his groundbreaking work on the theory of relativity, which he helped to popularize and develop through his research and writing. Eddington was born in Kendal, England, and attended Cambridge University, where he studied mathematics and physics. After completing his studies, he worked as a teacher and researcher, focusing on topics such as thermodynamics and the properties of matter. In 1915, Eddington's work took a dramatic turn when he became interested in Einstein's theory of general relativity. Eddington was one of the few scientists in the world who understood the theory well enough to test it experimentally. In 1919, he led an expedition to the island of Principe off the west coast of Africa to observe a solar eclipse. His team was able to observe the bending of starlight as it passed near the sun, which provided strong evidence for the validity of Einstein's theory. Eddington's work on relativity helped to establish him as one of the leading astrophysicists of his time. He went on to make important contributions to the study of stellar structure, the nature of white dwarfs, and the properties of interstellar dust. He also developed the concept of degenerate matter, which is now widely used in astrophysics. In addition to his scientific work, Eddington was known for his writings on philosophy and metaphysics. He was a devout Quaker and believed that science and religion could coexist harmoniously. https://zzz.media/94Facebook - Instagram - YouTube - PatreonBackground Music Provided by THE SLEEP CHANNEL from Spotifyhttps://sptfy.com/MNb7Looking for a Headset you can wear while you sleep?https://www.sleepphones.com/Try out SleepPhones today! ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
