The Rescue of the Samaritano (1860)

The Sea by Frederick Whymper, published in 1883, started its story about the Samaritano as follows: “One Sunday night in the month of February, a few years ago, the weather was what sailors call “dirty”, and accompanied by sudden gusts of wind and snow-squalls.
