My book, The Resurrector, also deals with this theme, where one of the main characters has gone through a very similar change in his life. But the book has deeper themes that can appeal to your audience - the family is sitting shiva for the death of another son that was estranged from his father, and a stranger comes and gives the father the power to see his dead son.
