The Rise & Fall Of Sportsnet 960 The FAN Ft. The Regina Rocket | FN Barn Burner

Boomer sits down with longtime FAN 960 program director Kelly Kirch — better known as the Regina Rocket — to look back on the rise, glory days and eventual death of Calgary’s beloved sports radio station. From Mike Richards and Rob Kerr to Pinder, Rhett Warrener, Pat Steinberg and the personalities that helped shape the station, Boomer and Kelly share stories from behind the scenes, revisit some of the biggest eras in FAN 960 history and discuss what made the station such an important part of Calgary’s sports community. Plus, Kelly opens up about the end of FAN 960, the changing sports radio landscape and whether something like it could ever exist again.TIMESTAMPS ⏰00:00 Intro / The Old FAN 960 Building03:27 Kelly Kirch / The Regina Rocket07:56 Kelly’s Early Days in Calgary Radio09:59 Building FAN 96014:53 The Mike Richards Era21:04 Mike Richards Stories26:16 Rob Kerr Joins FAN 96028:44 Remembering Joe Sports31:45 Boomer Joins FAN 96034:02 The Old FAN 960 Studios38:12 The 2004 Flames Cup Run39:21 Mike Richards Leaves / Boomer Takes Over41:17 Break43:40 Boomer & Pinder Morning Show47:38 Rhett Warrener Joins the Show52:12 The Rhett Warrener Roast55:38 Pat Steinberg’s Rise at FAN 9601:01:52 Sports Radio Across Canada1:04:03 Dealing With Sportsnet / Toronto1:05:05 Kelly Finds Out He’s Been Let Go1:08:04 The Death of Sports Radio1:10:18 Could Sports Radio Ever Come Back?1:11:23 Remembering FAN 9601:13:24 Break1:20:22 The Power of the Microphone1:23:40 Memorable Interviews & Moments1:27:11 Relationship With the Calgary Flames1:30:20 Looking Back on Kelly’s Career1:31:31 Classic FAN 960 Stories1:35:48 FAN 960 Memories & Stories1:38:45 Saying Goodbye to FAN 9601:40:22 EndSubscribe to FN Barn Burner 🚨➡️ https://www.youtube.com/@FNBarnBurner📲 Follow Barn BurnerInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/fnbarnburner/X (Twitter): https://x.com/barnburnerfn🎧 Listen to the PodcastApple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/be/podcast/barn-burner-boomer-pinder-with-rhett-warrener/id1648562889Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3Mc6Qd5U22R2zbMlQ7RxIi🛒 Barn Burner Merchhttps://nationgear.ca/collections/flamesnation🎬 Watch Barn Burner Shortshttps://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLj_bcGtvvo-cW2DHEDZ6dEO5ePDmlhZc9Powered by our partners:• bet365 – http://www.bet365.ca/• McLeod Law – https://www.mcleod-law.com/• Village Honda – https://www.villagehonda.com/• Outdoor Dental – https://www.outdoor.dental/• Capital Chev – https://www.capitalchev.ca/• Crowfoot Dodge Chrysler – https://www.crowfootdodgechrysler.com/• Renfrew Chrysler – https://www.renfrewchrysler.ca/• Crystal Waters Plumbing Company – https://www.crystalwatersplumbingcompany.com/• Bon Ton Meat Market – https://www.bontonmeatmarket.com/• Templ – https://drinktempl.com/• Sundre Golf Club – https://www.sundregolf.com/• Taco Time Canada – https://tacotimecanada.com/• Adrenalin Source for Sports – https://www.sourceforsports.ca/pages/adrenalin-source-for-sports-calgary• GMC - https://www.gmccanada.ca/en/trucks/sierra-1500• Greta Bar YYC https://gretabar.com/calgary/• Rocky View Hockey Academy https://rockyviewhockeyacademy.com/Business [email protected]: Jack Haverstock#NHL #Hockey #CalgaryFlames #EdmontonOilers Hosted on Acast.
