As I said in the talk, I only wish I had a larger platform to help give Dr. Connor the attention she deserves.In this video, she walks us through the data that suggests the collapse of our healthcare system is imminent. This isn’t an ideological conversation where politicians throw around phrases like “free handouts” and “socialism.” This is a conversation where we look at the numbers, and the story those numbers tell is not pretty.What’s become clear to me in the course of my talks with Dr. Connor is that political debate on this issue is nothing more than a distraction. We need action right now. When it comes to healthcare, mistakes cost human lives. As the latest Republican murder bill comes into full effect, we’re going to lose friends and loved ones. It’s happening.As Dr. Connor said, this isn’t “somebody else’s problem.” It’s going to happen to you and the people you love. This is a problem we can’t afford to ignore.We have to get used to having uncomfortable conversations that go against the rules of cultural decorum. We have to recognize those rules were only put in place to perpetuate a system of exploitation. Speak out. Yes, people will get angry if you tell them the truth. Yes, that will be uncomfortable. But I promise you it will be far less uncomfortable than watching your friends and family die due to incompetence and malicious governance.We still have the power to change the course of history, but it’s going to require community action. It’s our obligation to bring this reality into the national conversation. We can’t allow politicians to distract from this problem with soundbites and corporate-approved remarks.
