About CMS In order to find ways to raise healthcare quality while lowering costs for the Medicare, Medicaid, and Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) programmes, Congress established the CMS Innovation Center in 2010. In response to this challenge, the CMS Innovation Center has sped up the transition from a healthcare system that pays for volume to one that pays for value through its models, projects, and Congressionally mandated demonstrations.The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Innovation Center, also known as “CMMI,” develops and tests new healthcare payment and service delivery models to:1. Improve patient care.2. Lower costs.3.
