The Role Has to Change
from Mind to Impact Hosted by William OConnor
As a dental practice grows, the owner’s role has to change with it. In the beginning, the dentist is often the primary doer: producing the dentistry, answering questions, solving exceptions, and keeping the practice moving through personal involvement. But growth changes the demands on the owner. At some point, the practice needs more than clinical production. It needs leadership, management, clearer authority, and structure that allows the right work to move to the right level. In this Season 2 closing episode of Mind to Impact, we look at the transition from doer to leader-manager, the activity trap that keeps owners pulled into too much non-clinical work, and why delegation alone is not enough without structure. This episode closes Season 2 by asking a deeper question: what role does the owner need to play now, and how does the practice grow without making that owner the permanent bottleneck? That question becomes the bridge into Season 3, where the conversation moves toward how owner-led professional practices build the structure to operate beyond the owner’s direct reach.
