The Role Of Egypt In The Hamas-Israel Conflict: A Fireside Chat With Dr Ofir Winter, Senior Researcher At The Institute For National Security Studies

Egypt plays a towering role in the Middle East. Not only is the country the most populous in the region, home to more than 100 million people, it is also the first Arab state to make peace with Israel, in 1979. Egypt also plays a critical role in the current war between Israel and Hamas, bordering Gaza. What is Cairo looking for in its relationship with Israel, with Hamas, and what role is it trying to play in the Middle East at large? To share his expertise in the area, we are joined by Dr Ofir Winter. Dr. Winter is a senior researcher at the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) in Tel Aviv, where he specializes in Arab-Israeli relations and contemporary Egypt.
