The Role Of Men In The Family

from Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church · host WEPC

Not everyone can say this, but I’m thankful for the home I grew up in. It certainly doesn't mean that it was perfect, and I have lots of examples of what to do and what not to do. But I am thankful for the provision, sacrifice, love, care, and nurture that I received. The Bible makes it clear that God is passionately concerned about the care and nurture of children. The words that we will hear on Sunday from Deuteronomy 6:1-9 make it clear that as God was speaking to his people, he was urging them to be responsible in instructing their families in the knowledge and wisdom of his Word. This instruction was not to be limited to an hour or two a week. God said, “Talk about (these commands) when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”Nurturing children in the faith is a way of life, and fathers have a special responsibility. While this Sunday will focus on the role of men in the family, all of us have a role to play. Church leaders. Teachers. Social workers. Coaches. Grandparents. Each person plays their part. But parents are called to provide safe and happy homes in which children grow. They are to nurture and cultivate. They should show care for children who are wounded and seek to strengthen them in every way. Just as Jesus himself showed his heart for children by welcoming, blessing, and instructing them, our homes should reflect the same, starting with fathers.Grace & Peace,Pastor Aaron
