The Role of the Eldest Daughter in a Latine Family

from Latinx Therapy · host Adriana Alejandre, LMFT

In this episode, I spoke with Viridiana Zendejas, LCSW about the eldest daughter role within a Latine family, where we discussed common character traits carried by daughters, and what unseen grief is like. Viridiana and I discussed how the current administration and ICE raids specifically impact eldest daughters. Drawing from her experience, we explored strategies to support eldest daughters including inner child work. About today's guest: Viridiana Zendejas is the eldest daughter of Mexican immigrant parents and a licensed clinical social worker who advocates for generational healing from unspoken generational emotional burdens often impacting the eldest daughter. Viridiana is also the founder of Generaciones Counseling in Arizona, where she provides cultural affirming, trauma-informed therapy whose work honors family resilience while also holding space for individual healing.  Follow Viridiana  Private Practice: http://https://www.gencounseling.net/  Resources mentioned in the episode:  https://www.thepuenteproject.org/  https://www.azpoder.org/?utm_medium=referral&utm_source=idealist  https://www.borderlandsinitiative.org/  Books Mentioned:  Bad Ass Bonita by Kim Guerra  The Undocumented Americans by Karla Cornejo Villavicencio
