The Roman Monarchy and the Rise of the Republic

Before the Roman Republic became the template for Western governance, Rome was ruled by kings. This episode explores the seven legendary kings of Rome — from Romulus to Tarquin the Proud — and the overthrow that created the Republic. We dive into the Etruscan influence on early Rome, the cultural and political achievements of kings like Servius Tullius, and the controversial story of Lucretia, whose rape sparked a revolution. Historian Tim Cornell's thesis that the later kings were historical figures is discussed, along with the archaeological evidence for early Rome. We examine how Roman identity was forged under monarchy, and how the expulsion of the kings led to the creation of the consulship and the Senate as we know it. A fascinating look at the foundations of Roman power, where myth meets history. #RomanMonarchy #SevenKingsOfRome #Romulus #NumaPompilius #TullusHostilius #AncusMarcius #TarquiniusPriscus #ServiusTullius #TarquinTheProud #Lucretia #RomanRepublic #Etruscans #CuriaHostilia #LexSacrata #PatriciansAndPlebeians #AncientRome #History #FexingoHistory Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
